A look back at the best dressed women at this year's Cannes

Cannes wasn't as glitzy but was still glamorous, said fashion experts.

Fashion didn't have the ultra-glamour of previous years in Cannes but designers, fashion editors and celebrities defended the understatement.
Among some of the best dressed women at the film festival were Rachel Weisz, who appeared in a green strapless number with split thigh, Sophie Marceau and Monica Belluci arriving on red carpet in in red dresses, Penelope Cruz in lavender Armani Prive, and Coco Chanel actress Anna Mouglalis in an emerald green dress.

"You know everyone said Cannes was going to be sad this year but it's not. There's a lot of energy and it's a great red carpet," French Vogue editor Carine Rothfield told Reuters Television.

"It's not as in your face maybe as it's been over the years. There's a little more respect of the times and what's going on out in the world But people here are still feeling good about what they do and the industry goes on and no industry prospers today as it did in the past," said fashion designer Kenneth Cole.

Italian designers Dolce and Gabbana had a smaller party this year, only inviting 400 guests as opposed to last year's 1500. But they said Cannes lost none of its character.

"No Cannes is glamorous. Cannes is Cannes like Venice, like St. Tropez like all the fabulous places."
