British designer Alexander McQueen is honoured with a tribute in New York

The Council of Fashion Designers of America held their annual gala in New York, where British designer Alexander McQueen was honoured with an award and a tribute fashion show.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES (JUNE 7, 2010) REUTERS - Some of the biggest names in the fashion world graced the red carpet at the 2010 Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards ceremony in New York on Monday (June 7).
The event, held at the famed Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, saw models, designers and fashionistas don fine threads and strut their stuff, ahead of the Awards ceremony.

Actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Biel and Brooke Shields were just a few of the famous faces who turned up to support their designer friends.

The evening had a solemn moment as the the CFDA Board of Directors honoured deceased British fashion designer Alexander McQueen with their 'Special Tribute Award.'

Ahead of the awards ceremony, American designer Kenneth Cole spoke of the designer's impact on the fashion world.

"I think Alexander will be honoured for a long time and we will remember what he has done, what he has stood for, his creative energy and spirit for a lot of years to come and a lot of people will continue to aspire to reach that creative level that he did almost from the beginning of his career," said Cole.

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker talked about McQueen's legacy in the fashion industry.

"It is with honour and great regret that I speak briefly tonight of the career and artistic achievements of the late, great Alexander McQueen," said Parker. "He was a young man of 40, but talented well beyond his years. At first, one recalls his masterful and sophisticated draping, then the silhouette, and then the strength."

Model Iman, wearing a dramatic black dress, was given the 'Fashion Icon Award' for her contribution to style and glamour, by actress Isabella Rosellini.
