Austere black dresses and plastic capes at Yves Saint Laurent's Paris Fashion Week Show.
PARIS, FRANCE (MARCH 8, 2010) YVES SAINT LAURENT HANDOUT - With Paris skies free from rain-clouds, Yves Saint Laurent designer Stefano Pilati unveiled an austere and predominantly black collection of suits and dresses on Monday (March 8), many of which were - unnecessarily for now at least - fitted with detachable clear plastic mini-capes.
Pilati also adorned his stilettos with unexpected tufts of fur on the heel. Silhouettes this year were longer, with trousers wider and lower on the hips. Suits and dresses were accessorised with long gold pendants.
The collection was presented in the Paris Grand Palais on the same day a retrospective exhibition of Yves Saint Laurent's work was unveiled in the nearby Petit Palais.
Yves Saint Laurent, who shook up the fashion world for decades with his women's tuxedo suits, safari-style jackets and opulent sequinned dresses inspired by famous painters, died on June 1 2008 in Paris at the age of 72.
