Stella McCartney and father at Paris fashion week

Paul McCartney threw his support behind his designer daughter Stella and admitted he was clueless when it came to fashion.

PARIS, FRANCE - Sir Paul McCartney came to Paris to support his designer daughter Stella, as he sat front row with rock chick Beth Ditto.

McCartney said her collection was inspired simply by "women" and her simple, clean lines were just that - wearable.

She showed a signature minimal collection in neutral colours and free of embellishments or jewellery.

The clothes seemed made more for the working woman, not the famous celebrity friends she's often seen with.

Shift dresses harked back to the sixties with hemlines barely skimming the thigh.

Boyfriend jackets, one of her many staples, were again on show for Autumn/Winter.

Backstage, she said she knows what women want.

Designer Stella McCartney, saying:

"You know, this connection is a response to moving on, moving upwards, and, you know, really addressing what women are going to need in the future to make them feel better about themselves."

Posing for pictures with girlfriend Nancy Shevell, ex-Beatle Paul admitted he was no fashion expert.

Sir Paul McCartney, saying:

"Over the last ten years she's grown, yes, very much so, yeah. It was always good, but it's more of a defined look now. But I don't know anything about fashion! Don't ask me! She's just great. That's all I know."

Stella McCartney said her show was a tribute to fellow British designer Alexander McQueen who committed suicide last month.
