Models trip and fall on Paris fashion runway

A combination of towering high heels and slippery surface makes for a nightmare situation for models at Paris fashion week.
PARIS, FRANCE (JULY 7, 2010) REUTERS - It is nearly every model's dream to walk the Paris catwalk for Haute Couture week, wearing gowns made by the world's top designers overseeing hundreds of hours of handcrafted sewing, beading and embroidery, and which can cost as much as 100,000 U.S. dollars.

But on Wednesday (July 7), those dreams turned into nightmares for models at Lebanese designer Elie Saab's show.
Walking the catwalk is not as simple as it may seem. Not only do models have to wear dresses which are weighed down with heavy embellishments and fabrics, but also towering high heels which many times are too small or too big, some have to be stuffed with tissue just to get the right size.
Add this to a slippery catwalk which had just been cleaned after the mandatory practice walkthough before the show, and the mixture was enough to send the models falling down in front of the world's press.
The models continued on with the show, however, like true professionals, with other models seemingly walking extra slow in order to not repeat the spectacle.
Paris fashion week ends on Thursday (July 8).
