Valentino steps into the world of ballet

Celebrities hit the red carpet at New York City Ballet's Fall Gala honoring fashion designer Valentino Garavani who designed the dance troupe's latest costumes. Elly Park reports.

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES - Ballet is about to get fashionable with the help of this man - legendary fashion designer Valentino Garavani.

The retired designer collaborated with New York City Ballet in creating original costumes while staying true to his high fashion roots.

Valentino Garavani, Fashion Designer, saying
"I was quite surprised to find the working room sensational. They followed me very well, and I pushed them to build haute couture."

Among the celebrities at the opening gala was actress Sarah Jessica Parker.

As a board member of the dance company it was her idea to pair ballet with fashion to appeal to a younger audience.

For her, Valentino was an obvious choice.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Actress, saying
"This is a man that's spent the better part of his lifetime designing. He is a great, great fan of the ballet so he knew instinctively what works and what doesn't."

The dance company says it has already sold twice as many tickets as previous seasons, and will continue to collaborate with designers in the future.
