Givenchy's spring/summer 2013 collection is pure and ecclesiastical yet carries a tough edge.
PARIS, FRANCE (GIVENCHY) - Givenchy presented a Spring/Summer 2013 collection that was classically elegant with a tough edge on Sunday (September 30) at Paris Fashion Week.
The ability to create a collection incorporating these two contrasting elements has become the trademark of Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci who has been at the helm of the storied French label for the past eight years.
Tisci's latest collection was inspired by the 1960s Givenchy archives, the traditional dress of nuns, and the work of the Italian architect Carlo Molino.
The result was a presentation rife with graphic silhouettes, precise lines, and an ecclesiastical spirit. F
Brass necklaces recalled priest collars and models presented dresses with angel wing-like panels pinned to their backs.
Tisci used fabrics traditionally employed in haute couture creations of the 1960s such as lace, silk chiffon, silk radzimer, honeycomb jacquard, taffeta, organza, and duchess satin. The colour palette was restrained, comprised of black, white, dove grey and baby blue with the occasional metal and silver touch.
Hubert de Givenchy founded his couture label in 1952. He famously designed the elegant black dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in the cult film "Breakfast at Tiffany's."
