The red carpet is rolled out, as Hollywood prepares for the Academy Awards

Workers finish last-minute preparations around the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, the venue of the 84th Annual Academy Awards.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES (FEBRUARY 26, 2012) (REUTERS) - California's normally dramatic golden sunrise took on a supporting role, as an early morning fog rolled in to take top billing at this year's Oscar Sunday (February 26).

The sun is expected to shine later in the day, giving way to a plethora of Hollywood stars who will walk the crimson colored carpet on their way to the Kodak Theatre, the venue for the entrainment industry's biggest night - The 84th Annual Academy Awards.

While planning for the show is literally a 12-month job, there is still work to be done.

Early morning preparations on the day included the placing of road barriers around Hollywood Boulevard, the rolling out of additional red carpet at the "stars" drop off point on the corner or Hollywood and Highland, and the continued and seemingly never ending process of fitting and measuring the 25,000 square feet of red carpet.

That pursuit of perfection will offer a Hollywood backdrop for this year's Oscar nominees George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Meryl Streep.

The lack of a sunrise didn't stop a number television crews from arriving early to report on the last minute prep work that is going on at the Kodak Theatre, as it readies itself for its close-up.

The 84th Annual Academy Award will be broadcast live attracting close to 100 million viewers in 200 countries.
