People wear a human hair wig for a variety of reasons: to
make a fashion statement or cover up thinning hair or bald
heads, or because of their religion or work requirements
(perhaps you're a barrister, or you work at a
colonial-themed tavern where you have to look like you've
stepped out of the 18th century!). And it's not just people
like you and me who wear wigs, it's celebrities, too.
Somehow, it's nice to know that famous people are doing the
same thing as you are - great minds think alike!
Let's take a look at three notable American human hair wig
wearers:
1. Andre Agassi - In his 2009 autobiography, "Open," Agassi,
former World No. 1 tennis player, confessed that the spunky
golden mane that he sported in the 1990s was actually a
human hair wig. Agassi described how he struggled with
losing his hair at a young age, so he used a wig to conceal
his hair loss. While he was playing in the French Open grand
final in 1990, he was praying, not that he would win, but
that his human hair wig would not fall off. In 1995, upon
the advice of his wife at the time, Brooke Shields, Agassi
shaved his head and kept on winning. Agassi is considered
to be one of the world's all-time greatest players, winning
eight grand slam singles titles, the Olympic gold medal in
singles, and the ATP Tour World Championships.
2. Lady Gaga - Lady Gaga is a natural brunette but she dies
her hair blonde. Not that that matters, since she usually
wears a human hair wig. Gaga is definitely not just a
singer-songwriter, she's a fashion icon and a trendsetter,
known for her crazy outfits (think dresses resembling slabs
of meat, baby Kermit the Frog dolls and plastic bubbles),
topped off by equally crazy wigs. Lady Gaga is styled by her
very own collection of fashion advisers, hair stylists and
makeup artists, which she calls the Haus of GaGa, and she
cites Donatella Versace as her muse. While Gaga is all for
over-the-top wig accessories, she believes that less is more
when it comes to her bottom half - with her "no pants"
philosophy, she commonly wears shapewear as outerwear.
3. Dolly Parton - Dolly Parton, Queen of Country Music, is a
true Baby Boomer, born in 1946, but she looks younger than
ever, thanks to her blonder than blonde human hair wig (she
even had a signature line of Revlon hair wigs in the 1990s),
bright red lips, voluptuous figure, and sexy outfits. Dolly
Parton has publicly admitted she's a fan of the facelift,
saying that "If I see something sagging, bagging, and
dragging, I'm going to nip it, tuck it, and suck it."
Dolly's not just about makeup and wig accessories, though:
she's one of the most successful female country music
artists in America and across the world, and has had
twenty-five number-one singles, and a record forty-one
top-10 country albums.
